StatCounter have released the latest figures indicating the top 5 browsers as on July 2012. Chrome is leading the market share for browsers. With 33.81 percent of the market with it, Chrome is definitely at the top of the order, closely followed by Internet Explorer that has for itself 32.04 percent. Firefox comes in third at 23.73 percent, while Safari logged in 7.12 percent. Opera managed a share of 1.72 percent in the sheet. 

StatCounter is a web traffic analysis tool. It records all kinds of information about browsers and other parameters by monitoring data traffic trends. Figures released by StatCounter pertaining to the market share of browsers in June 2012, saw Chrome overtake Internet Explorer by becoming the world’s most used web browser. The market share lines crossed ways in May. The following month, Google Chrome had a market share of 32.43 percent, while Internet Explorer had 32.12 percent. Firefox was trailing behind at a moderate 25.55 percent. Internet Explorer has been falling steadily over the past years. Apple’s Safari was at a distance with a share of 7.09 percent and Opera far behind with a share of 1.77 percent.

StatCounter numbers revealed early this year had indicated that Chrome will continue to accelerate, and Internet Explorer seems to be dipping quickly. Chrome is expected to become the most used browser by the end of this year. Internet Explorer dropped from 40.63 percent in November 2011 to 38.65 percent in December 2011 to 32.04 percent in July 2012. Chrome, on the other hand, rose from 25.69 percent in November 2011 to 27.27 percent in December 2011 to 33.81 percent in July this year.

A report by Accuvant published towards the end of last year revealed that Chrome is the most secure browser. Accuvant conducted a range of tests and checks to determine how secure various browsers were. What’s surprising is that Internet Explorer ranked ahead of Firefox in terms of security in these tests. The report also notes the frequency of updates and finds that Google releases regular updates to its browser, while Firefox updates are erratic. Chrome has implemented a proper Sandboxing system, while Firefox lacks one. JIT hardening, another safety mechanism that can prevent malicious code from being run on the PC is present in Internet Explorer but not in Firefox.
