HTC One To Get Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update With Sense 6.0

HTC One To Get Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update With Sense 6.0

second generation HTC One (codenamed M8) has just been release last month, on March 25th, HTC still offers support for last year’s HTC One and keeps it up to date for the million of owners of the first generation One. HTC announced that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update with Sense 6.0 will be pushed to HTC One (first generation) owners by the end of next month.

Jason Mackenzie, the president of HTC America, confirmed the news that owners of a first generation HTC One will get the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update with Sense 6.0, on his Twitter account: “Reminder that Sense 6 will push to current HTC One users by end of May. #htcadvantage“. While no specific release date for the update was offered, the time frame is good enough as it assures HTC One (first gen) owners that their smartphone will be updated next month. This is good news as it shows that the Taiwanese company is dedicated at supporting its older smartphones; after making HTC One M8 Sense 6.0 apps available on the Google Play STore it will now bring Sense 6.0 to last year’s HTC One.

Sense 6.0 (also known as “Sixth Sense“) was unveiled at the same event as the second generation HTC One on March 25, 2014. It is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and in many ways it looks and feels like the previous version, but it offers new customization options (color themes and new font choices), increased use of transparency effects and updates to some of its included apps. BlinkFeed, Gallery, TV, and Zoe are now updated independently of Sense through Google Play Store. It also features Motion Launch gestures; for example, you can wake up the HTC One M8 (and soon the first generation HTC One) simply by tapping twice on the display. Swiping left and right launches the widget panel or BlinkFeed.

The recently confirmed update will be for Sixth Sense and for the HTC One M8 exclusive apps, since the first generation HTC One already received an update to the latest version of Google’s mobile Operating System, Android 4.4.2 KitKat. As always with software updates, don’t expect to have it available as soon as you see the news online. You probably know that software updates are pushed in steps and whether you receive the update as soon as it is released or later, largely depends on your region and carrier. Either way, after the initial release, it probably won’t be long until it will be available for you to download form your carrier, so be patient and follow us as we will report on its release date as soon as we know it. Until then, you can use the section below to tell us if you would upgrade to the recently released HTC One M8 or if you are happy with your first generation HTC One and don’t feel the need to upgrade.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Coming to Samsung Galaxy S3 in April or May 2014

Android 4.4.2 KitKat Update Coming to Samsung Galaxy S3 in April or May 2014

Samsung in order to find out some information about the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy S3
and their other smartphones that still haven’t been updated yet. Fortunately there are some new rumors saying that the Korean maker will finally update some of their older smartphones to KitKat in April or May.

The rumors come from Daum, a Korean publication and it seems like Samsung will bring all the features along with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the Galaxy S3. We really believe the rumors to be true, as the company has promised before to update their Samsung Galaxy S3.

We expect the Android 4.4.2 KitKat to start rolling out to the Galaxy S3 initially in Korea or Poland, as these are the countries Samsung starts with usually.

Galaxy S3 users should soon enjoy all the new features brought by Android 4.4.2, including the full-screen mode, location settings, default app settings, and wireless printing.

The Galaxy S3 should also become more responsive and use less memory, being faster overall.
The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will improve the user experience significantly, especially thanks to its new features. The location settings will allow you to save battery life, by showing you which of the location detection features uses it and allowing it to easily enable or disable each of them. Default app settings show you which app is used to take a specific action and you can change them easily.
The full screen mode allows an app to hide the notification bar and you can swipe down from the top to reveal it. This way you will have more screen area available.

While waiting for the Galaxy S3 update, we are also looking into other Samsung smartphones, like the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Grand 2 and even the older smartphones, Galaxy S2 and the original Galaxy Note.

Samsung has also made a few additions of its own, including a camera shortcut on the lockscreen, improved GPS performance, and enhanced sound controls for specific Samsung apps.

As usual, the update will be rolling out gradually and could take a few days to reach everyone, though you can take a peep into the Settings » General » About phone » Software updates to force the update to show up right away.

Android 4.4 KitKat might be available for the Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Grand 2 Duos

Android 4.4 KitKat might be available for the Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Grand 2 Duos

Samsung announced its Android 4.4 KitKat update list last month, and several users were infuriated at the
fact that the Galaxy S3 was not included. However, it looks like an official Android 4.4 KitKat update for the Galaxy S3 is still on the cards as a leaked document indicates that KitKat will roll out to the international version of the Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) next month. The document, obtained from an unnamed insider, details the Android 4.4 KitKat roll out for the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 (SM-N7100) and the Galaxy Grand 2 Duos (SM-G7102).

The release date for the KitKat roll out is mentioned as April – May. It is likely that Samsung will roll out KitKat to the aforementioned devices a few weeks after the Galaxy S5 becomes available. However, there is no way of confirming the legitimacy of the document. There is a likelihood that the document is a cleverly executed fake, but if this is the real deal, it is great to see Samsung including additional devices to its Android 4.4 roll out list. As always, we will inform you the moment we get any official confirmation as to when KitKat will be available on these devices.

Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505) receives official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505) receives official Android 4.4.2 KitKat update

Samsung has just started to roll out Android 4.4.2 KitKat upgrade to the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505). For the first time ever the Exynos variant has received a major update before the
Snapdragon variant, usually it’s the other way around.

The new Android 4.4.2 brings minor UI changes, the most noticeable change being the use of KitKat style white status bar icons instead of the multi-colour icons Samsung has been using in all of its devices until now. The phone has also received a performance boost with the latest update and there is an increase in benchmark scores, as well. Samsung has improved the lock-screen by adding a camera shortcut directly on to the lock-screen for quick access and while playing music the album art now shows up in full screen. Samsung’s keyboard layout has been improved for use in landscape mode, which makes gesture typing easy and much faster. Core Android 4.4.2 changes include: wireless printing, new emojis support, choice between stock messaging app and Hangouts for SMS/MMS, option for changing default launchers under settings, and more.

The software update is being rolled out in phases, so it may not yet be available in your country at the moment but don’t worry it will arrive very soon. If your device is carrier branded then it might take sometime as the update has to get improved by the carrier first and only then Samsung will make it available for your device.

To update your Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat, connect your device to your computer and use Samsung Kies or simply use Samsung’s OTA (over-the-air) service. To download and install the firmware via OTA, go to Settings > More > About Device > Software update > Update.

Global KitKat update list for multiple devices confirmed by Samsung

Global KitKat update list for multiple devices confirmed by Samsung

Samsung U.S. confirmed that 14 devices will soon be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, there was no mention of when international models would be receiving the KitKat update. Fret not users, as we now have confirmation as to which international models will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list is Samsung Poland’s official KitKat update list that was obtained today by Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski. It is to be noted that not all models listed below would be making the switch to KitKat right away. They will move to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and eventually receive Android 4.4 KitKat.

Here are the international models that will be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat:

Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 Active
Galaxy S4 Zoom
Galaxy Mega 6.3
Galaxy Mega 5.8
Galaxy Grand
Galaxy Express
Galaxy Note 8.0
Galaxy Note 10.1
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
Galaxy Tab 3 10.1

The list is identical to the list of models detailed by Samsung U.S., although unlike the U.S. list, it isn’t clear as to when these mobiles will receive the OTA update. Most devices launched last year are included in the list, with a few notable exclusions like the Galaxy Core. It is interesting to see that the Galaxy S3 won’t be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat, but considering that it is now close to two years since its official launch, we won’t blame Samsung for giving the S3 a miss.
